Do you know of someone who methodically recycles? Perhaps there is someone who continuously plants native "Florida Friendly" landscaping in their yard and helps others do the same.
In honor of National Arbor Day, April 2018 the City of North Port is seeking nominations for its annual Greenest Citizen Award. The award program is designed to recognize a North Port resident who has gone above and beyond to protect the environment by creating a more sustainable household or community.
Residents are encouraged to fill out the nomination form below on the City's web site by no later than 5 p.m. on March 2nd.
Beginning March 12th, the public will be able to vote on who should win the Greenest Citizen Award. Voting will end on March 16th , 2018. The winner will be announced as part of the program during the upcoming April 5th, 2018 Special Commission meeting.
"The Greenest Citizen Award was created to allow residents to decide who they think should be recognized for outstanding environmental stewardship," said Ryan Pieper, City Arborist. "Arbor Day is all about being environmentally aware and protecting the environment. Sometimes, it's not always 'easy to be green.' We wanted to honor those who take that extra step and make a difference in the community in which they live."
This is the ninth consecutive year the City has hosted the Greenest Citizen Award. The nominee will plant a memorial tree at one of the City’s parks to commemorate the previous year’s winner.
