An occupational license is a business tax. Contractors are exempt from the requirement of obtaining a business tax receipt in the City of North Port. However, contractors must register their state and/or county contractor licenses with the City of North Port Building Department.
Anyone who runs a business from their home or has a store-front in North Port must obtain a business tax receipt.
You may obtain an application by coming to the Building Department which is located at 4970 City Hall Bouldvard. Or you may print off the form from the link below. The annual fee is determined by the type of business.

Sec. 53-239. Home Occupations of the Unified Land Development Code
If you are moving your business into a commercial space in North Port, you will be asked to fill out a change of occupancy permit. This will allow our inspectors to check fire, electric, and zoning issues at that location. Once the inspections are complete and approved, you will then be issued a business tax receipt.
