CITY OF NORTH PORT LICENSES EXPIRE ON SEPTEMBER 30TH EACH YEAR
RENEWAL NOTICES ARE MAILED IN JULY
CONTRACTOR LICENSES ARE CHARGED A PENALTY FEE OF 10% WHEN PAID BETWEEN OCTOBER 1 AND DECEMBER 31.
CONTRACTOR LICENSES THAT ARE NOT RENEWED BY DECEMBER 31st WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE RE-APPLICATION FOR THEIR LICENSE.
TO WORK IN NORTH PORT
If you hold a state certified license, we need a copy of your license, general liability insurance and worker's comp insurance naming the City of North Port as Certificate Holder.
If you are county registered, we need a copy of your license, general liability insurance, worker's comp insurance naming the City of North Port as Certificate Holder and an annual $100 fee.
If you do the type of work that is not licensed by the State of Florida, then we need a copy of your Certificate of Competency, general liability insurance, worker's comp insurance naming the City of North Port as Certificate Holder and an annual $100 fee.
If you do not have a Certificate of Competency, then you need to obtain an application from the Building Department (4970 City Hall Boulevard) and follow the instructions. Once the application is approved, the requirements are the same as the other types of registration.
If you are not required to have worker's comp, then we need to see your exemption certificate.

Warning signs of an unlicensed contractor:
- An unmarked commercial vehicle
- No permit posted on the job site
- No license number or advertising on the vehicle
- A work vehicle with an out-of-state license plate
- Contractor is from out-of-state
- Work is performed only in the evenings or on the weekend
- The home owner is asked to obtain the permit
