Mission Statement
Our mission is to ensure the safety and health of our citizens through the proper and efficient collection and disposal of solid waste.
Who We Are The Solid Waste Division is a part of the Public Works Department for the City of North Port. The Solid Waste District is the taxing authority for solid waste services. The primary revenue source for the District is a non-ad valorem assessment. For most properties in North Port (single-family residential lots), the current assessment is $267.00 per year. The Solid Waste Division is the working entity within the Public Works Department which provides your services to you.
What We Do
The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the collection of garbage, recyclable waste, yard waste and bulk items (furniture, etc.) within the City limits of North Port. Residential garbage, recyclable items and yard waste are picked up once a week. Bulk collection service is available on a pre-scheduled basis only. Each residence is allowed two free bulk collections per year. Additional paid collections may also be scheduled. Commercial garbage and recycling collection services are offered from one to five times per week.The Solid Waste Division is led by Solid Waste Manager, Monica Bramble.
Biography 
Monica Bramble began her employment as Solid Waste Manager for the City of North Port on June 25, 2007. As Solid Waste Manager, Mrs. Bramble will oversee and be responsible for the operations of the solid waste and recycling collection services for Public Works. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. She also earned a Manager of Landfill Operations Certificate from the Solid Waste Association of North America.
Mrs. Bramble's most recent employment was as the acting Solid Waste Director/Solid Waste Disposal Superintendent in Spokane, WA. During her sixteen years with that Department, she also served as Laboratory Technician, Hazardous/Infectious Waste Coordinator, and Disposal Operations Superintendent. She has written many articles, including one on the City of Spokane's automated solid waste operations, which was published in the March 2007 American Public Works Association (APWA) Reporter.
Mrs. Bramble lives in North Port with her husband, Lenox, who is Utility Director for the City of Venice, FL. They have two children.
