Finance Department Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Finance Department is to preserve the financial integrity of the City of North Port, while assuring the availability of funds to accomplish the City's goals.
The City of North Port Finance Department consists of 22 employees. Its primary areas of service are Finance, Budgeting and Accounting, Central Cashiering and Purchasing. Financial responsibilities include budgeting, accounts payable, payroll, investment management, debt management, district and capital assessment management, and overseeing the city's more than $134 million dollar budget.
Accounting
The employees of this branch prepare all financial reports in accordance with GAAP (‘GenerallyAccepted Accounting Principles’), make all payments to vendors, and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Finance and Budgeting
The Finance Department prepares the budget for the City on behalf of the City Manager and in cooperation with all departments. The fiscal year begins October 1st, and the budget process starts in January.
Central Cashiering
Central cashiering division handles all revenue transactions for the City. These transactions include Utility payments, Solid Waste Pickups and Parks and Recreation payments.
Customers who wish to set up a new utility account, or make payments for a City service or event, may visit the main floor office during regular business hours (8:00 am—5:00 pm). For those customers who only need to make a payment, you may also visit us at the convenient drive-thru window from 7:30am — 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
There is also a night drop box located next to the drive-thru window for after hours payments.
Purchasing
Purchasing is responsible for developing and implementing all policies and procedures related to purchases for the City of North Port.
